When to turn on a uv lamp?
When the water temperature rises above 10°C turn the uv lamp back on. The fish become active again and the pond season starts again. This is usually in the month of March. This also causes floating algae to grow again. This growth can be prevented with good UVC-filter. In doing so, also start the pond properly with additional pond bacteria.
When to turn off a uv lamp?
It is always important to test the water quality of the pond regularly. This will help you best determine when to turn off the uv lamp. As a rule, the lamp can be turned off when the temperature drops below 10°C. This is because then almost no (harmful) algae grow in the pond. In most cases this is between November and February. Turning off the filter lamp reduces your energy costs. This is of course good for your wallet!
How often do you need to replace the UV lamp?
In general, a uv lamp is replaced every pond season. This is because an uv lamp eventually loses its filtering power. The lamp is no longer strong enough to destroy the DNA of all bacteria, fungi and algae. The lifespan of the Filtreau UV lamps is between 8,000 and 13,000 hours. This equates to about 12-15 months. So depending on exactly how long you have the lamp on, you should start replacing it. Most people choose to change the lamp annually to make sure it is providing the most efficient filtration.
